The Role
Responsible for safety of the ship, personnel, and equipment during all dry dock evolutions. Directs dry dock operations including ship movement in the dry dock, ballasting /de-ballasting of dry dock, and movement of dry dock to launch area. Coordinates with various support departments and evaluates all procedures and plans required for a successful dry dock evolution.
The Assistant Dock Master works alongside the Dock Master and the dry dock team for the safe and efficient translation, launch, docking or undocking of vessels on Ingalls 70,000 LT floating dry dock. The successful candidate will become familiar with all dry dock systems and positions and obtain experience and training required for NAVSEA certification. The successful candidate will also support a scheduled preventive maintenance program and manage projects required to maintain NAVSEA certification of the dry dock facility.
Must be able to access work areas by climbing multiple flights of stairs and/or vertical ladders. Must be able to work from elevated platforms, man baskets, or man lifts. Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments, inside ballast tanks, industrial environment, and confined spaces.
Must Have
Apprentice graduate. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 4 years of applicable technical experience. A candidate must have a thorough understanding of construction, manufacturing processes, and operations.
Nice to Have
Bachelor degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture.
Previous experience as a Dock Master, Assistant Dock Master or relevant shipyard position.
Recognized Dry Dock Training
Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions
Proven supervisory experience
