Responsible for providing legal advice to the University, its officers, colleges and academic and administrative departments, under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel and the General Counsel, to ensure compliance with legal requirements and to reduce exposure to legal risks. The position represents the University in judicial and governmental proceedings, educates University personnel about legal issues, serves as a resource on legal aspects of decisions and policies and assists with other legal functions as assigned. 1. Provides legal advice to ensure compliance with legal requirements, protect or advance the University's legal interests and reduce exposure to liabilities and legal risks
* Reviews laws, court opinions, government regulations and legal requirements
*Reviews, negotiates and drafts contracts, leases, licenses, deeds and other legal documents or instruments and/or negotiates amendments thereto
*Analyzes legal problems or issues presented by University clients and provides advice with respect thereto
2. Represents the University as legal counsel in judicial and governmental proceedings
*Under supervision of Deputy General Counsel, represents the University as counsel of record in proceedings or investigations
*Initiates or responds to legal discovery
*Litigates cases or negotiates resolution of cases under supervision of Deputy General Counsel
3. Serves as a resource for informed decision-making, policy, development and problem solving
* Analyzes legal aspects of legal issues involved in decisions
* Drafts or revises policies under supervision of Deputy General Counsel
4. Educates University personnel about legal requirements and risks
* Creates, prepares and presents educational or training materials on legal issues
*Responds to legal questions as they arise

Qualifications
Juris Doctorate Degree required
Must be a member of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligible for immediate membership
Three to five years related work experience
Experience in higher education preferred
Ability to conduct complex legal and factual research
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, time management and sound judgment
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion
Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software
Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
All Lehigh faculty and staff are required to be fully vaccinated and receive a booster shot six months after their second vaccine; unless they receive an approved medical or religious exemption from the requirement.
