Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, faculty, trainees, and students at the Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI), this position will serve as an advocate for faculty, trainees, and students, as well as create a long-term, holistic strategy that articulates the commitment imperative for inclusion, diversity, and belonging, with particular attention to programs and policies that affect trainee and student recruitment, retention, and advancement. The ACDIO will provide career guidance and mentoring to faculty and trainees, developing policies and programmatic resources that address the needs of faculty, trainees, and students.

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) is a department within Brigham & Women's Hospital that aims to enhance workforce diversity by providing career advancement and professional development opportunities and by promoting increased recruitment and retention among all diverse faculty. CDI's mission is to promote a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive professional community where every person can thrive.

Qualified candidates will hold an MD degree and/or Ph.D. (or equivalent) with a rank of Instructor or above at Harvard Medical School. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and mentoring in the academic medical setting with experience and interest in advancing the careers of Underrepresented in Medicine (UIM), Women, LGBTQ+, AAPI, 1st Generation faculty, trainees, and students. This position has a maximum commitment of 0.2 FTE and is a 2-year renewable appointment.

Qualifications
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and develop programs/policies to remove obstacles for faculty and trainees related to bias, structural racism, and other forms of inequities.
  • Create mentorship initiatives that foster inclusive opportunities for fellows, postdocs, and trainees & build leadership pathways that represent the diversity of the communities served.
  • Advise and respond to the needs of individual faculty and trainees by providing individual advice, guidance, support, and serving as a mentor.
  • In collaboration with the CDIO, BWH fellowship/residency directors, and Graduate Medical Education (GME), provide leadership and management to create, implement and monitor programs designed to support fellows/residency recruitment and retention.
  • Expand the HBCU mentoring programs across the BWH Departments and with the addition of other schools nationally.
  • Establish and lead a trainee leadership diversity council to build a welcoming and inclusive culture for residents and fellows.
  • Develop networks of support and advisors both within and outside the institution for UIM faculty and trainees.
  • Partner with MGH CDI and the BWH Center for Community Health and Health Equity with their student programs to create more connections between pathways programs (high school through medical school).
  • Participate in BWH and HMS committees in coordination with Senior Director, CDI.
  • Partner with the CDIOCDI team on the coordination of Residency Recruitment, SNMA/LMSA, and LGBTQ + faculty groups as needed.
  • Collaborate with HMS, HMS affiliates, and other BWH departments as a voice for faculty, trainees, and students.
