The Role:

The External Technology Investments (ETI) team is seeking an exceptionally creative and multi-disciplinary technologist to join our efforts at accelerating innovation at Moderna. In this role, you will be responsible for active, non-exhaustive yet comprehensive, landscape analysis where you independently identify, court, evaluate, and culminate deals through ETI. To accomplish this, you will need to fully understand our technology stack-from raw materials, to DNA, mRNA, and LNP, all the way through Release and Stability-and have a vision for solving current and future problems while also vying to capture scaling opportunities sometimes years away.

To succeed in this role, the candidate will design stage gates that allow decisive conclusions to be drawn on sometimes limited data. It will be critical to build consensus around your vision for success, and upon reaching go decisions, already have the buy-in required to matriculate your deals through sophisticated and complex diligence. This will necessarily require coordinating communication between legal, IP, business development, and scientific leadership. A significant time investment for this role will be in building relationships throughout the Moderna ecosystem in order to generate rapid alignment when leads generate positive proof of concept results.

Here's What You'll Do:

• Drive and develop the investment strategy for the Moderna technology platform
  
• Manage inbound and outbound technology deal flow
  
• Negotiate MTA and Evaluation Agreements
  
• Build connections through G&A
  
• Independently produce EC level documents
  
• Espouse and represent Moderna excellence externally
  
• Shepherd deals throughout the governance process
  

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:

• STEM PhD with 3-10 years of experience in industry, which includes biotech, pharma, CRO/CMO/CDMO, and venture capital
  
• Ideal candidates will have CMC/Process Development experience in nucleic acid medicine, with a specific focus on mRNA and lipid nanoparticles (LNP)
  
• An aesthetic draw to elegant science and clear collaboration agreements
  
• The ability to quickly distill and connect disparate ideas for presentation to senior leadership
