About this opportunity:
One of your responsibility would be to assist two refineries with procurement and construction contracts from drafting through close-out of the contract. Your responsibilities will also include litigation that may arise as a result of contract disputes or otherwise.
Another one of your responsibilities will be to serve as the lead lawyer on US HR matters, which will include addressing employment and labor issues, privacy issues, and being part of the investigations committee.
You are an enthusiastic team member who enjoys taking ownership of
projects, building relationships cross-functionally and working on cutting-edge legal issues.
As an integral member of the legal team, you will be working with a wide variety of people, both internal and external to Cenovus. In this role, you will assist the business in making sound business decisions. You will work with senior and executive management teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Significant experience with drafting, negotiating, analyzing and closing out construction and procurement agreements. Experience with fixed fee and lump sum agreements is a positive.
  • Works with business staff regarding legal issues relating to continuously improving contract terms and templates.
  • Experience with litigation matters, including litigation strategy and discovery.
  • Experience with HR Matters is required. You will be responsible for US HR matters. You will need to work independently on these matters, which will include HR policies, documents, EEOC claims, union issues, privacy questions, and other day-to-day HR matters
Qualifications :
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience, but 15+ years experience is preferred
  • Associate General Counsel or greater legal experience is required. Must have led a division or a legal group.
  • A Juris Doctorate is required.
