Job Description:


Central College seeks applicants (Ph.D.; ABD considered) for a tenure-line Assistant Professor of Biochemistry. The opportunity to work with a dynamic team of science educators begins in August 2024.


To support the success of faculty and students, the department possesses an array of instrumentation, which can be utilized for both research and instruction. With generous funding from the community, the department is in the process of upgrading its equipment which includes the following installations within the previous three years: JEOL 400 MHz NMR with autosampler, ThermoFisher Core HPLC, Advion CMS Expression S Mass Spectrometer with ASAP module, Agilent AA-55 Flame Spectrometer, Agilent (Cary) 60 UV/Vis Spectrometer with fiber optic probe, and updated electrochemistry equipment. Equipment upgrades are continuing for other instruments over the next three years.



Requirements:


The ideal candidate will join a friendly and collaborative Natural Sciences Department, which houses the Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science programs. The Chemistry Program is American Chemical Society certified and offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry. The successful candidate will take a leading role in delivery and continued development of the biochemistry curriculum with an eye towards integrating within the department curriculum. The successful candidate will participate in a thriving culture of undergraduate research. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a closely related field (ABD considered). In addition to courses in biochemistry, additional contributions may include supporting the general chemistry curriculum, advanced biology curriculum and institutional core requirements.
