We are seeking a Biologist to support the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Perform aseptic technique and culture of immortalized cell lines.
  • Perform molecular biology and immunological techniques, including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RT-qPCR, and ELISA.
  • Perform experiments with BSL-2 and BSL-3 pathogens.
  • Perform work and be comfortable with handling small lab animals (mice).
  • Perform infections in and harvest tissues from mice in ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 facilities.
  • Perform subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intramuscular, retroorbital, and intranasal inoculations in mice in ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 facilities.
  • Process collected tissues for downstream assays, including but not limited to tissue homogenization, tissue digestion and immunostaining, virus titration, and RNA extraction.
  • Maintain a mouse colony including breeding, genotyping, and census of laboratory animals.
  • Order supplies and reagents for the lab.
  • Maintain lab viral stocks and inventory.
  • Establish protocols or instruction/SOP and maintain accurate experimental logs, with attention to detail.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Requires vaccination against agents used in animals, including influenza virus.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills required.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety in the lab and maintain any necessary certifications and trainings.
  • Communicate and work as a team and interact with other laboratory personnel, having strong interpersonal skills.
