Summary:

Duties and responsibilities include: taking and recording vital signs, changing bed linens, transporting patients, assisting patients in ambulating, providing activities for daily living to include bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with personal hygiene. This position performs a range of clerical duties that supports the operations of the unit to include entering patient information in Meditech computer system, assembling patient charts, ordering, receiving and storing supplies, answering phones for the unit, greeting guests such as physicians, patient families and visitors, and corresponding with ancillary departments regarding patient care. This position may include other duties as assigned.

Shoreline Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit is a 36-private bed unit that specializes in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients that are post CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis/history with co-morbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips, or Aquadex. On 6NT, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/ management. Our average nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 to 1:6 depending on patient acuity. One beautiful thing about 6NT is we are a heart floor in a heart hospital, so our beds are in high demand, are typically full, and our staff is rarely cancelled. Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service skills and computer literacy is required. Previous experience as a Nurse Assistant/Unit Secretary in a hospital setting preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Current Texas CNA Certification
  • CPR (American Heart Association)
