Endowed Chair for Behavioral Mental Health Nursing

Position Summary

Michigan State University College of Nursing invites applications for its inaugural McLaren Greater Lansing Endowed Chair for Behavioral Mental Health Nursing Education. This endowed position includes an academic appointment in the College at the associate or full professor rank, as well as funding for scholarship/research. The Endowed Chair will serve as a keystone in the development of behavioral mental health education and curriculum in the College of Nursing and surrounding communities. Grounded in the knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations affecting nursing practice as well as funding for behavioral mental health and best practices for improving behavioral mental health outcomes, the Endowed Chair will foster application of best practices in the education of nursing students and nurses in community-based practices for improving behavioral mental health outcomes in those practices. The ability to integrate and implement Interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration within the classroom and clinical settings as well with academic partners is expected.

The Endowed Chair will demonstrate strong leadership and mentoring abilities, and exemplify a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Chair will establish effective collaborations within as well as external to the College of Nursing and pursue activities that enhance the university's reputation. The Chair will develop and maintain an extramurally funded program of research in behavioral mental health nursing, serve as a resource in grantsmanship for faculty, and inspire faculty and students to progress in their research and scholarship endeavors. The Chair will promote the translation of research findings for practice and policy improvement and demonstrate how nursing research positively impacts behavioral mental health outcomes. The Endowed Chair will lead College of Nursing efforts in partnership with McLaren Greater Lansing to develop innovative education and practice models for the improvement of inclusive and equitable behavioral mental health care and across diverse community settings.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Nursing or related field

Minimum Requirements

Position Requirements

  • PhD in nursing or related field, with graduate level education in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
  • Unrestricted RN license without probationary status (or eligible)
  • Distinguished and sustained record of scholarship/research in behavioral mental health nursing
  • Experience developing innovative education and community-based initiatives in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to obtain an appointment consistent with a tenured Associate or Full Professor
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to articulate the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of the College to a variety of audiences
  • Distinguished and sustained record of community and professional engagement
  • Experience in higher education teaching is preferred
