The Benjamin Moore Product Development team, located in Flanders, New Jersey, is currently seeking a Chemist to join our Color Development team. In this role, your main area of concentration would be developing zero VOC waterborne colorants for architectural coatings. The position has a focus on experimentation and data analysis, while offering opportunities to be innovative and engage in creative problem solving. Your experiences would involve continued opportunities for technical growth and exposure to new innovative technologies, advancing Benjamin Moore products into the next generation of coatings. Key Responsibilities:

  • Process batches of colorant for research and development
  • Perform product physical and application testing
  • Record test results efficiently and accurately in computer or laboratory notebook
  • Analyzes data, thoroughly documents results and recommends next steps
  • Plans and supports plant scale-ups
  • Designs and executes experiments to meet targeted objectives
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety and cleanliness guidelines


Desired Experience / Qualifications:
  • BS in Chemistry or related field, 3+ years of experience.
  • Prior formulating experience of color dispersions or architectural coatings a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Desire to increase knowledge through continuous learning
  • Exhibits and fosters team behavior
  • Ability to understand written instructions, test procedures and SDS sheets
  • Strong communication, presentation & organizational skills
  • Knowledge of standard paint testing or application preferred
