JOB SUMMARY
The Machinist I requires detailed instructions on all work. Works under the close supervision of the Production Supervisor (Machine Shop). The Machinist I sets up and operates a variety of machines including manual and CNC Mills. Lathes, and cut-off saws.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Set-up, adjusts, and operates a variety of machines, which may include manual lathe, manual mills, turret lathes, CNC mills and CNC lathes.
Follow work practices which are geared toward continuous quality improvement, Lean, and best practices.
Assist with layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment.
Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform machining tasks, that includes the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions.
Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances.
May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.
Work as an effective team member in the department.
Participate in cross training going on in the department.
Work in conjunction with Production Supervisor (Machine Shop) to establish annual individual goals and objectives in alignment with department goals.
Assist in 5S ensuring a clean and safe work area and shop at all times.
Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Education
Required:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Voc-tech machinist program and 1+ years of experience.
- No formal education or training will require 5+ years of directly related machining experience.
Desired:
- Experience working in a machine shop in a high technology environment
Experience
Minimum of one-year experience in manufacturing environment specifically in a high technology environment.
KNOWLEDGE
- Requires minimal supervision to operate all available machine tools to perform various machine operations on parts that are made from various materials.
- Willing and able to be trained on simple set up operations.
- Knowledgeable in running both CNC and manual machines.
- Works on assignments that are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment. Has little or no role in decision-making.
- Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
- Normally receives detailed instructions on all work. Works under close supervision.
- Basic understanding of working properties of all materials.
- Normally follows established procedures on routine work; requires instructions only on new assignments.
