Position Overview:

The Commercial Products Optimizer role is based in Motiva's headquarters in Houston TX and will report to the Commercial Products Manager. The Commercial Products Optimizer will support Fuels Sales and Marketing and the Optimization team by developing tools to quickly sort, contextualize, and present data for Commercial Product Manager, Optimizers and other Business Units to use in decision making. This position requires defining new ways to create a highly commercial, highly collaborative culture which always operates to deliver the best end to end value for Motiva.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate unstructured, complex business problems into practical, powerful data solutions
  • Sift through large data sets to identifying and contextualizing data that is most valuable to the business, given the current market conditions
  • Simplify complex data sets and visualizing the data at multiple scales to be able to inform all levels of business
  • Provide on demand solutions for urgent data needs
  • Investigate reported data to uncover and correct flaws in the underlying data
  • Contextualize data into action through optimization recommendations to the business
  • Develop tools that automate the processes of accessing, analyzing, and delivering the necessary information to the stakeholders
  • Maintain an up-to-date scope of work enabling effectiveness at challenging the status quo and proper engagement during the daily market view huddles with Refining, Trading, Supply, Risk, Marine and other relevant stakeholders
  • Manage multiple interfaces within Refining, Fuels Reliability, Value Chain Optimization, Fuels Marketing & Sales, Finance, and Legal
  • Support understanding and monetization of real options in the Unbranded Portfolio aiming at capturing time-value and pricing options
  • Develop tools that automate the processes of accessing, manipulating, and delivering necessary information to stakeholders
  • Work on both diesel and unbranded gasoline opportunities from the FSM Unbranded Portfolio
  • Track and report daily market structure impact for deal structuring and deal performance
  • Act as RFP focal point between Sales and Optimization
  • Work with Ethanol team on the quarterly Ethanol RFP impacts from the unbranded portfolio
  • Analyze, develop, and implement strategy for boutique fuels (bio diesel)

Experience and Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 4 years of working experience
  • Familiarity with visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Salesforce and Right Angle experience
  • Advance Microsoft Suites (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) experience
  • The ability to be highly resilient and stress resistant when dealing with unforeseen situations and under time pressure to making decisions
  • Strong initiative and ability to challenge and question to find value creation opportunities
  • Ability to understand optionality in the end-to-end value chain and how they can be influenced to maximize value
  • Must be comfortable adapting to and understanding systems and web-based tools
  • Requires effective communication with various stakeholders, ability to influence and drive effective teamwork to deliver enterprise-first goals is critical
  • Having "Commercial Curiosity" is a must for the success in this role

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in BA, BS, MS Computer Science, Data Science, or related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics)
  • Fuels Reliability, Terminal Operations, Market/Sales Channel, Financial Budgeting and Analysis
  • Trading background
  • Wholesale pricing experience
  • Experience with Advanced programming knowledge (Python, VBA, etc.)
