Position: Community Practice Physician- Pathology (AP/CP)

Institution: University of Vermont Health Network

Location: Barre, Vermont

Job Description: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Health Network (UVM HN) is seeking a full-time pathologist to provide anatomic and clinical pathology services in a community practice setting.

The University of Vermont Health Network is composed of seven hospitals, including six community hospitals in central Vermont and upstate New York and one academic medical center in Burlington, Vermont. Our Community Practice Pathology Division is staffed by 10 pathologists covering community hospitals in the Health Network as well as a number of non-network critical access hospital laboratories ("outreach"). While this full-time role is primarily based at Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) in Berlin, VT, CLIA directorship of at least one outreach hospital laboratory is to be expected.

The Berlin/Montpelier location is situated in central Vermont and surrounded by the beautiful Green Mountains. Few locations rival the quality of life possible in Vermont, and working with the pathologists and staff at CVMC provides a supportive work environment with a true community feel. In addition, there is seamless access to subspecialist academic consultants as needed, and our Community Practice Division provides high quality patient care to our region. The combination of outstanding quality of life and significant professional satisfaction make this a unique and highly-desirable opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage in both anatomic and clinical pathology services as a community practice pathologist, serving patients throughout our region.
  • Deliver state-of-the-art patient care as part of a strong team of board-certified pathologists at CVMC.
  • Be an engaged team player fostering the supportive work environment at CVMC.
  • Serve as a CLIA Medical Director at an outreach hospital laboratory, typically one day per week; the Department provides support and training for candidates needing additional laboratory management skills.

Qualifications:

  • Board-eligible or Board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Vermont and New York.
  • Fellowship training in surgical pathology or a subspecialty is desirable.
  • Experience in community practice pathology is highly desirable.

Benefits:

  • The Berlin/Barre/Montpelier central Vermont area offers a picturesque setting with ample opportunities for skiing/snowboarding, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, and water-related activities on Lake Champlain or any of the local lakes.
  • Nearby cities include Burlington (30 minutes), Montreal (2 hours), and Boston (3 hours)
  • This position provides the opportunity to be part of an academic pathology department while enjoying a community environment.
  • Receive an appointment at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, which provides all the benefits (e.g. tuition remission) for UVM faculty.
  • Additional outstanding benefits package including medical student loan repayment assistance.

Commitment to Diversity:

  • The Department and the University of Vermont are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to diversity and inclusion through their service and leadership. The University of Vermont is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other category legally protected by federal or state law. The University encourages applications from all individuals who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the institution.

Application Process:

  • Interested candidates should apply online at www.uvmjobs.com, referencing Job # F3036PO.
  • Required materials: Introductory cover letter, curriculum vitae, diversity and inclusion statement, and three professional references.
  • Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
  • We encourage submission by June 1, 2024.
