CONTROLS ENGINEER

SUMMARY

Qualified individual to diagnose and troubleshoot issues to support activities that relate to machine or system repair of serial production manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those listed below. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Provide manufacturing & controls engineering support to all plant departments.
  • Troubleshoot production issues; assist &/or direct maintenance controls/electrical/electronic issues on the manufacturing floor related to serial production.
  • Ensure equipment is performing effectively and efficiently.
  • Assist in performance and optimization of preventative maintenance.
  • Analyze equipment operating data to ensure equipment is operating as close to design parameters as possible.
  • Consults at a technical level with maintenance craft workers regarding equipment or work related problems.
  • Participate in MAHLE Production Systems (MPS) activities in manufacturing areas (Kaizen events, cleaning boards, OEE, etc.)
  • Support, manage and control Facility Engineering projects/duties.
  • Provide technical assistance and resolution when manufacturing/electrical/electronic problems are encountered before, during and after installation of new equipment or new construction.
  • Create complete and accurate process documentation and manufacturing instructions.
  • Prepare clear & concise technical/non-technical material (reports, presentations, etc.)
  • Effectively interact with Product, Process, Safety and Environmental as necessary.
  • Effectively work with people at all levels & within cross-functional team environments to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Research and implement improvements in the cost, quality or delivery of our products.
  • Review approved electrical engineering criteria for new or proposed projects.
  • Coordinates electrical engineering projects for the facility, including electrical codes and regulations.
  • Supports and/or installs PLC and PC software applications, e.g., Control Logix, Device Net and Panel Builder, Allen Bradley and Siemens Controls
  • Perform related duties as required.

  • REQUIRED SKILLS

    Qualified to diagnose & troubleshoot issues, and support maintenance activities related to serial production. Strong interpersonal skills and organizational aptitude. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) operations. Highly developed controls / electrical aptitude. Knowledge of principles and practices of electrical & controls engineering design and of related Federal, State and Local Laws, codes and regulations. Qualified on electrical & controls hardware/software components & applications (e.g. PLC / HMI appl., PC software appl., VFD controls, etc.). Knowledge of Allen-Bradley & Siemens components, applications, controls & communication protocols.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position does not have any supervisory proponents.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Several years of engineering experience in a high-volume automotive manuf. plant.
  • Experiences with lean manufacturing, JIT, OEE, line sequencing, KANBAN, etc.
  • Experienced as a leader of cost focused solutions to manufacturing issues.


  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    Must be fluent in English. Working-level second language skills is a plus. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and directors, and to present to groups of customers or employees of the organization. Values and considers the perspectives and backgrounds of all parties.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to apply concepts and information typically taught during a four-year college or university course.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The environment will vary in this position based on assignments. When working in the office environment noise is generally minimal.

    The environment in manufacturing plants and testing labs are often loud, hot, and with particulates in the air. Working environment may contain potentially hazardous materials such as acids, solvents, oils, and common etchants. In such environments, adherence to PPE regulations is required.

    WORK HOURS

    Employees must be able to work additional hours and/or additional days during the payroll week which can be in excess of forty (40) hours per payroll week.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Domestic/international travel with/without overnight stay may be required.

    Controls Engineer at a very fast paced manufacturing facility.
