DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR I

Job Summary:

Primary responsibility is to provide monitoring, tuning, and maintenance functions in support of specific database environment(s). Additional responsibilities include maintaining the overall data integrity and security of assigned databases. This position contributes with other technical team members to ensure a viable support infrastructure is available.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor and optimize database instances using available administration tools, scripts, and utilities.
  • Monitor and configure database parameters accordingly
  • Monitor and optimize disk storage associated with databases while assisting system administrators with storage allocation and planning
  • Conduct regular monitoring of system performance as compared to baseline of assigned databases to ensure viability; mitigating potential risks to system performance or data integrity
  • Conduct regular database security, audit, and resource allocation procedures as defined by department policy; support defined access control standards around managing accounts, profiles, privileges, and roles
  • Conduct scheduled database backup and recovery plans providing appropriate evidence of success; assist with analysis, recommendation for corrective actions, and resolution of problems when backup and/or recovery plans fail
  • Assist with the administrative and technical duties surrounding the installation and successful implementation (or upgrade) of database software in support of maintenance or project related work
  • Accountable as the application subject matter expert (SME) when assigned to project teams
  • Participate with internal departments, external partners, and vendors to obtain/maintain database best practices
  • Design and implement the data extraction, data load, and database synchronization routines and functions
  • Achieve defined Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Perform on call duties as assigned/required

Perform other duties as assigned/required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of database administration best practices
  • Understanding of software development structure and lifecycle methodologies --Ability to work well in team environments
  • Demonstrates customer-oriented service excellence principals
  • Self-motivated to identify and resolve issues, and in advancing personal knowledge --Demonstrates sound and logical problem-solving abilities
  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other technical field required

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's
  • EXPERIENCE - Minimum/no experience required
