Position Summary

Create designs and support the manufacturing of gas and vacuum circuit breakers using 3D mechanical Computer Aided Design (CAD) modeling and 2D electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Maintain CAD files, coordinate CAD maintenance and train CAD system users. Communicate with vendors regarding accuracy, manufacturability and potential design improvements.
Essential Functions

  • Receive general design requirements from engineering staff and, with minimal direction, create conceptual designs, final designs, drawings, and documentation that fully specify the layout and design requirements to support the manufacture and production of the product either at the EDD factory or outside supplier site.
  • Generate and maintain 3D parts and assemblies using 3D CAD, and electrical schematics and 2D wiring diagrams using electrical software package.
  • Prepare the documentation for mechanical and electrical drawing control to maintain drawing revision control and to preserve CAD data integrity.
  • Evaluate existing designs for cost effectiveness in collaboration with design engineers, production personnel, and vendors.
  • Make recommendations to improve product cost, quality, and manufacturing efficiency, including both mechanical and electrical control aspects.
  • Interpret customer mechanical and electrical specifications and drawings and convert into Division production drawings.
  • Train and guide Division Designers and Drafters as needed.
  • Maintain the Division's CAD System.
  • Develop drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure appropriate versions are maintained.
  • Identify, define, and schedule software training activities.
  • Coordinate the CAD responsibilities for the Division.
  • Function as gatekeeper in maintaining active files. Define and maintain file structure for Division drawings.
  • Review, schedule, and implement software upgrades and patches.
  • Serve as subject expert for CAD software technology being used including new features and upgrades.
  • Ensure Engineering management and Drafting/Engineering personnel receive appropriate CAD-related information.
  • Oversee product data management software maintenance and processes in the Division's Engineering Department.
  • Travel to vendors as necessary.
  • Coordinate requirements and interaction with the Company's Information Technology Department as needed.
Qualifications
  • Associates degree in drafting or design technologies, plus a minimum of 8 years of mechanical and electrical drafting experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Developed verbal and written communications skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3-D modeling and electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Advanced skills in drafting techniques using CAD, Solid Modeling and other hardware and software.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office and design software.
