Your Role:

MilliporeSigma has an opening for a Development Scientist at The Woodlands, TX location! As part of the Development group, you will support all activities related to process development, improvements, and troubleshooting of our manufacturing processes. In addition, you will be the liaison between our manufacturing processes and customers' applications. The job duties call for:

  • Design and conduct molecular biology assays such as qPCR/RT-qPCR and NGS assays to address manufacturing and customers' issues
  • Lead and manage projects through the full project cycle (define specifications, design test plan, execute testing, define process, write manufacturing documents, manage change process including training and validation)
  • Provide technical expertise for non-conformance or complaint investigations, root cause analysis, and risks assessments
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of staff within various departments to facilitate successful project outcomes
  • Support other teams as needed, including EHS, QC, and Marketing/Sales
  • Adhere to company EHS and Quality policies and programs
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with MilliporeSigma core values

This role may include occasional travel possible to support other manufacturing sites or for training as well as unconventional hours including weekends and evenings

Physical Attributes:
  • Working in labs with potential contact with hazardous chemicals such as flammable solvents and corrosives
  • Wearing appropriate protective equipment (PPE) per company policy, including respirators, gloves, lab coats, face shield and other PPE
  • Working in cold conditions (walk-in freezer) as process requires
  • Occasionally will be working near equipment with moving parts
  • Occasionally lifting or pushing heavy objects up to 25 lbs.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Molecular Biology or Analytical/Organic Chemistry or other Science field
  • 2+ years of experience in biotech, manufacturing, or academic

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge and hands on experience with molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR/RT-qPCR, and Next-Generation Sequencing
  • Proven track record of independently designing and executing medium to complex molecular biology assays
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers
  • Good understanding of synthesis and purification techniques of oligonucleotides
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete projects in an accurate and timely manner
  • Experience training people with different scientific background
  • Knowledge of validation process, project management tools and ISO standards
  • Ability to use standard office computer and software daily
  • Hands-on, inquisitive, detail-oriented, and organized individual that follows good laboratory practices and works safely.
  • Engaged, self-driven, require minimal guidance to meet your goals/timeline, and can adapt easily to changing priorities
  • Keep abreast of new development in the field through scientific literature review, attending meetings, or training when applicable
