Summary of the role
As the Director, HR, you will have a seat on the Senior Leadership team for the Germantown, WI and Cary, NC sites. This role is results-oriented with a keen ability to influence site leadership to drive a performance-based culture of innovation, accountability, and customer focus. This role will bring leadership skills and gain a deep knowledge of the business across Sterling's network. Expectations are to scale with the growth of the business, solve problems with creative solutions, and deliver results. This individual is accountable for helping partner, design and implement a US HR strategy in areas of employment, policy/practices, compensation, benefits, training and development, employee relations, organizational development, performance appraisal and compliance. This role is key in developing a team of HR professionals as well as personally progressing to scale into a future, multi-unit leadership role as the company grows.

Key areas of responsibility include the ability to guide and drive excellence to the US site HR and site leadership teams in HR initiatives according to the Sterling Values and company's strategic plans in the day-to-day HR operations functions by partnering with all site leaders in all aspects of overall people operations while serving to be an effective coach who develops managers while supporting the business at both a tactical and strategic level.

Your responsibilities

  • Develops a cohesive and achievable regional HR strategy to support Global and Site organizational priorities in alignment with the Sterling Strategic Imperatives.
  • Leads a team of 4-5 HR professionals providing support in near-term and longer-term talent management and planning, staffing initiatives, organizational effectiveness, team development, employee relations, performance management, and recognition programs.
  • Leads and develops a high-performing team focused on excelling in support of day-to-day business activities and needs through a proactive business partner approach.
  • Leads projects with buy-in from stakeholders and then drive execution to established targets using effective project management skills.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains a strong partnership with leaders, employees, and team members to optimize the effectiveness of the organization and foster the Sterling Culture.
  • Oversees the employee relations programs and processes that result in promoting a workplace culture that aligns with Sterling Values (Be Caring, Be Reliable, Be Transparent, Be Willing).
  • Supports current and future site needs through the talent acquisition, development, and engagement that assist in attracting and retaining key talent.
  • In partnership with the Talent Acquisition function, facilitates and coordinates the US recruitment and selection process according to Sterling policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Total Rewards to define and review US site salary structure and benefits plans and communicate changes or updates.
  • Oversees the employee onboarding programs ensuring a welcoming environment that prepares employees for success in their roles and their career at Sterling.
  • Advises site leaders and employees on general benefit matters and collaborates with other HR team members to effectively manage unemployment claims, short-term and long-term disability claims, requests for Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and requests for accommodations under the American's Disability Act (ADA).
  • Assists with conflict resolution and advises on employee relations issues and on the application of Human Resources policies, procedures and practices and employment law, standards, and government regulations.
  • Guides, directs, and supports leaders in performance management and corrective action for progressive discipline up to and including the termination decision-making and approval process.

Requirements for the role
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or business-related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of related human resources experience, including a minimum of 10 years of prior HRBP experience.
  • Demonstrated success through steady career progression within varied HR roles for the last 7 - 10+ years.
  • Prior HRBP experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences and/or manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated success with stretch assignments that are evidence of superior performance in previous roles (e.g., varied experiences to include but not limited to start-ups, turn-arounds, international assignments, and rapid growth business environments).
  • Experience in workforce planning/flex staffing.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple priorities simultaneously - orientated on driving results.
  • Support of a 24/7 business and UK based business that requires schedule flexibility.
