West Virginia University College Applied Human Sciences is currently accepting applications for a Director of Student Services.
As the Director of Student Services, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of student support services for CAHS programs. Monitors best practices in advising, retention, student orientation and student engagement, and plays an active role in assessing the needs of CAHS students to ensure the continual enhancement of programming and service quality within the Student Success portfolio.

What you'll do:
- Supervise, manage and direct the work of the Office of Student Success staff (Student Success Coordinators/Developmental Advisors, Recruitment Specialist, Student Success Program Assistant, and Associate Directors of Advising, Recruitment, and Career Services).
- Oversees advising processes of undergraduate students within CAHS .
- Manages academic matters (transfer GEF courses, course substitutions, retroactive withdrawals, probations/suspensions, etc.) in close consultation with programmatic faculty and administration.
- Oversees the coordination of retention initiatives, including student success programming, and peer tutoring.
- Oversees the coordination of professional preparation, including internships, field experiences, and career services.
- Oversees the coordination of student events, such as for New Student and Transfer Orientations, First Year Academy, Mid-Year Academy, Freshman convocation (academic day), open houses, other recruitment-related events, graduation, etc.
- Works with staff to remain up to date with Financial Aid issues/staff, University College advisors/staff
- Coordinates school/scholars’ program and student ambassadors.
- Attends relevant College and University meetings and communicating policies and changes to relevant school/college administrators and student services staff
- Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Higher Education, Sport Sciences, or related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years experience in the following:
- Academic advising in a higher education setting.
- Have experience in strategic planning, supervision of full-time staff members, and the implementation of retention and student success initiatives.
- Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to Diversity and Inclusion, and demonstrate the ability to create an environment where staff and students feel valued and respected.
- Ability to make decisions independently and work in an environment of change.
- Have strong leadership skills that exemplify collaboration, communication, action, and advocacy.
- Have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills as demonstrate the ability to handle simultaneous projects.
- Have the ability to interpret data to make staffing and programming decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic advising and student learning/development theories applied to practice.
- Have knowledge of computer/technology skills, including Microsoft Office suite to conduct academic advising duties and create/process documents.
- Attention to detail, ability to organize and prioritize work, and understand/interpret policies and procedures.
- Have the ability to relate effectively to diverse populations as this position engages with administrator, students, faculty, support staff, alumni, and parents.
