The Emergency Medical Technician will support Instructional and Emergency Medical Technician support services at Special Mission Training Center (SMTC) to provide state of the art Chemical, Biological, Radiological, & Nuclear (CBRN) resident and mobile training to all required USCG personnel as directed by FORCECOM, CG 721, the Coast Guard Maritime Security (Counterterrorism) Division (CG-DOD-2) and Emergency Medical support for resident training courses at Camp Lejeune, NC.

In this role you will....

  • Work under the license of the SMTC Senior Medical Officer (SMO), to support the SMTC staff by providing live-fire emergency medical support with a varying work hour.
  • Perform and maintain required training indicative towards working in a rural setting and Service Unit requirements.
  • The EMT Services include but are not limited to advanced life support ambulance service, administrative transfers, transports to and from range sites, patient transports, and field ambulance services as defined in industry standard Emergency Medical Services and by the state of North Carolina.
  • Shall be required to meet Continuing Education (CE) requirements as determined by the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) State of licensure, whichever is more stringent.
  • Develop and validate the latest emergency medical protocols ensuring the best emergency medical care is available for SMTC using the training/sustainment program approved by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, and U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).
  • Gain an intimate familiarity with the Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) associated with the high-risk training evolutions that are conducted daily and remain fully engaged in supporting these protocols to provide adequate emergency support.
  • Department of Homeland Security EMS Basic and Advance Protocols and MCIEAST-MCD CAMLEJO 3570.1(series) shall be reviewed prior to standing EMS duties.
  • Document all medical interventions on Standard Form-600, in compliance with DOD Medical Standards and to the level of their training and certification. Access to Military Health System Genesis is NOT needed.
Experience Requirements:
  • Five years of military enlisted medical field experience. Five years of civilian EMT experience is an acceptable substitute.
  • Current National Registry of EMTs (NREMT certification and/or North Carolina State EMT certification (EMT-I & EMT-P).
  • Possess and maintain current certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Requires EMT to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and/or longer than 12 or more hour shifts due to emergencies or when training evolutions are extended to meet training objectives.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license to operate government vehicles.
  • Must complete Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training annually.
  • Mandatory Seasonal influenza vaccination requirement therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Requires wearing a uniform identifiable as an EMT provider. Close-toed shoes required. Scrubs not authorized.
  • Required to assist SMTC Medical Department where otherwise needed to include general administration for training support preparation and medical equipment inventory.
  • Reports in clear, concise manner of what injuries were identified during an emergency or medical encounters.
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to carry gear and equipment weighing up to 150lbs.
  • Mustbe able to stand, walk, sit, lift, carry, use their hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear, speak and be understood on a two-way radio, move human casualties and/or equipment up to 150 lbs., and handle exposure to extreme conditions (heat and cold environments while on field coverage).
  • Must possess a valid driver license to operate government vehicles.
  • Ability to manage stress with a high degree of maturity/professionalism
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and leadership skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance is required
