At Flagstar Bank, our ten Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are an essential part of building a more inclusive workplace by aligning our ERG co-chairs with Learning & Development and HR Business Partners to deliver results that increase the retention, engagement and promotion of diverse talent.

The Employee Resource Group (ERG) Manager will direct, plan, and execute programs to support the ten Flagstar Bank ERGs across the country. This position reports to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director and will collaborate across all levels of the organization. This role seeks a candidate who has demonstrated experience in successfully managing ERGs and DEI committees/councils within a multi-faceted institution. This person will coach ERG leadership, advise ERG Executive Sponsors, and ensure the ERGs function at a high capacity. The candidate will have the ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of multiple dimensions of diversity, such as; cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, gender, educational, age, sexual orientation, sexual identity, and other differences that make us unique. The ERG Manager is a full-time position operating in a hybrid model with the flexibility to work remotely as well as at our Troy, MI or New York, NY office locations (with expected travel to Flagstar Bank offices for important DEI meetings and events).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build trust-based relationships with ERG co-chairs, members, executive sponsors and other key stakeholders to ensure ERG initiatives and activities drive engagement with measurable outcomes.
  • Develop robust and impactful educational heritage programming that celebrates the uniqueness of various cultures via events, conferences and philanthropy drives (i.e. Black History Month, Women's History Month, LGBT Pride Month, Diwali, etc.)
  • Facilitate on-site ERG meetings and DEI training sessions to advance professional development and continuous learning.
  • Increase utilization of DEI materials, resources, toolkits, and new tools to support ERG co-chair and member engagement (e.g., marketing collateral, toolkits, calendar, onboarding information, reporting templates, surveys etc.)
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to engage ERG members in recruiting diverse candidates
  • Develop communication & marketing materials for key heritage month and other marquee events, including social media content for events and programs
  • Work with Employee Resource Group leaders to develop annual operating plans
  • Manage ERG membership database and develop metrics to measure impact of ERG initiatives, e.g., post program evaluations, and recommendations for continuous improvement. Track and report enterprise and program level metrics as they pertain to ERG activities and initiatives.
  • Provide management and oversight of ERG operations budget allocations, invoice approvals, and process payments.
  • Conduct ongoing research to stay current on belonging, diversity, equity & inclusion, employee engagement and ERG best practices
  • Manager is responsible for managing a project budget.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:
  • DEI certification from a recognized university or DEI organization Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with a minimum of 3 years of experience in ERG management and programs related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion implementation
  • Significant experience running ERGs, DEI committees and/or programs related to the development of underrepresented and historically excluded communities in a corporate setting.
  • Foundational DEI cultural competence with demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, influence and collaborate effectively across; functions, cultures, geographic and time-zone boundaries.
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills; knowledge of DEI curriculum development.
  • Exceptional ability to structure and manage multiple ERG initiatives simultaneously and drive to completion in a timely manner.
  • The candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, be committed to process improvement, standardization and creating sustainability.
  • High attention to detail
  • Confidence and ability to express ideas/opinions and offer recommendations in a diplomatic way by demonstrating sensitivity to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience partnering with external vendors, including with non-profit organizations
  • High public speaking competence and commitment to accuracy in writing.
  • Strong data analytical skills - ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into insights.
  • Demonstrated competence in critical thinking, emotional intelligence and independent decision making.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - in particular Excel, PowerPoint, Word as well as WebEx.
  • Travel < 25%
