Summary

Overview

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is seeking an experienced Security Professional to fill the Facility Security Officer position for its Schenectady, NY location. BPMI maintains an expert security team which develops, implements, documents, maintains, and administers all aspects of the company's physical, information, and personnel security functions. The Facility Security Officer is responsible for overseeing, supporting, and executing all aspects of security in support of the facility security plan. This includes interfacing with both internal and external customers as well as performing detailed reviews of data and metrics ensuring strict adherence and compliance with prescribed requirements.

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI provides design, manufacturing, supply chain management, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel. BPMI also delivers information technology and operational solutions to the Nuclear Navy, enabling them to fulfill their critical mission.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform data collection, tracking, and auditing in support of identifying and correcting weak or problems areas that have the potential to impact quality and productivity.
  • Coordinate and present employee training. Develop revised training materials. Review training materials prepared by others and provide direction.
  • Lead or participate as a team member on the development of implementation plans for DOE Order.
  • Lead investigations of a security nature or events related to the facility or personnel which includes gathering sensitive data in a confidential manner to assess security vulnerabilities and threats. Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring Physical, Personnel and Information Protection security programs including training for all employees and derivative classifiers.
  • Demonstrate compliance to DOE and National Industrial Security Program (NISPOM) requirements by developing, executing, and documenting an information protection and facility security plans for BPMI.
  • Support distribution and implementation of classification guidance, standard operating procedures, and manuals.
  • Provide direction and collaboratively contribute to work efforts within the Physical, Personnel and Information Protection areas, both within the Primes and with Naval Reactors.
  • Maintain currency on security issues and threats, and develop ideas by conducting research on new concepts, equipment, or methods to provide appropriate recommendations to address complicated security problems.
  • Manage and oversee the performance and contract management aspects of site assigned security sub-contractors.
  • Ability to team and work collaboratively with other BPMI site personnel to support the BPMI mission.
  • This position will involve travel to other BPMI sites in support of security
  • Perform other duties, special projects, or related functions, as assigned

Qualifications

Required:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years relevant experience.
  • An advanced degree or Project Management Certification may be considered in lieu of some years of experience.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to government security clearance requirements. In order to work at BPMI, applicants must complete a Federal background investigation and be granted a security clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance for the duration of employment.
Preferred:
  • Ten years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience as an Information Protection Officer, Classification Officer, or Security Professional.
  • Experience as a derivative classifier.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, organization, teaming, and facilitation skills with diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in both verbal and written form.
