This part-time position falls under the U.S. Department of Labor Service Contract Act (SCA). Hourly wage will be determined based on the geographical area in which your home is located. The pay rate for your location is $22.00 per hour. In addition to hourly pay, a Health and Welfare stipend of $4.27 per hour will be provided for up to 40 hours per week. You are also eligible to receive pay for up to 10 holidays and annual vacation time payout.
Travel time and mileage is fully reimbursable.

Field Interviewers are responsible for

  • Making in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions and obtain participation
  • Collecting confidential information and administering standardized questionnaires
  • Independently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings
  • When working in the field, must be willing to agree to any COVID-19-related protocols put in place by RTI.  These could include, among others, wearing face coverings or respiratory protection, gloves, taking temperatures daily, social distancing with survey respondents, getting vaccinated, and/or completing a health pledge. All safety supplies required for use on the project will be provided by RTI.
  • Remaining available for possible overnight travel
  • Locating hard-to-find respondents by following up on telephone and address leads and generating new leads
  • Accurately completing all project documents and reports, while adhering to project deadlines
  • Demonstrating the ability to work with your supervisor, completing assignments on schedule, and keeping your supervisor informed of problem areas that might affect progress
  • Assuming full and legal responsibility for use, and care of the project-issued equipment and other items
  • Returning all equipment in a timely manner upon completion of assignment
  • Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records of progress in the field
  • Transmitting data to RTI each morning and evening that you work
  • Submitting daily time and expense reports
  • Completing and sending daily reports to your Field Supervisor
  • Utilizing a secure RTI email account for all communication regarding the project and accessing this account regularly.

Part-time Field Representatives (FRs) will work on the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being - Tracing Project (NSCAW-Tracing). NSCAW is a longitudinal study of children and families who had contact with the child welfare system. FRs will contact families who have approximately 10 years after their most recent interview. The goal of this effort is to determine how many families the research team can successfully locate to inform them of potential future data collection activities.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old at time of employment
  • Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening, and fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
  • Available for entire training and data collection period
  • Able to successfully complete training
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
  • Able to keep project information confidential.

Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates

  • Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from culturally-diverse backgrounds
  • Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
  • Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency
  • Willingness to work in diverse neighborhoods and homes
  • In-person completion of household contacting and locating of selected sampled adults
  • Access to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
  • Regular access to a cell phone/telephone for contacting respondents to encourage study participation and schedule appointments.
  • Attend virtual meetings with your Field Supervisor via Zoom
  • Able to accommodate work schedule to include primary weekday evenings from 4-8pm, Saturdays after 10am, and Sundays after 2pm
  • Fluency in Spanish, both written and spoken, preferred

  • The data collection period is expected to be February 2023 through July 2023.
  • On average, you will be needed approximately 25 hours per week when work is available.
  • On average, you should be available to work in the field 4 days each week.
  • The majority of this work is anticipated to be during evenings and weekends.
  • Each of your trips to the field are expected to be at least 4 hours long.

Training for this project, including self-study and virtual instructor-led, is scheduled for February 2023.
