Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of duties requiring the use of judgment to follow job layout and specifications.
  • Install, repair, test, calibrate and maintain single self-contained and three phase alternating current meters at voltages not exceeding 480 volts.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and operation of all tools and work equipment including RF diagnostic, GPS, test equipment and Field Automation/MDT associated with an automated service order system.
  • Required to document and update through the use of computer technology the field order completion data.
  • Maintain adequate supply of meters, tools, and supplies on vehicles.
  • Judgment required in dealing with but not limited to customers, contractors, landlords, inspectors and other agencies.
  • Perform proper meter functions with 100% accuracy, in connection with re-reads, turn-ons, turn-offs, transfers, meter installations and exchanges, meter testing and various investigations relating to, but not limited to meters and metering equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot electronic meters with 100% accuracy.
  • Identify, notify and correct safety violations with electrical metering equipment.
  • Perform duties of the Electrical Equipment Inspector (missing locks, proper signage, etc.).
  • Perform duties related to Collections, including bucket rescue when needed.
  • Responsible for installing external monitoring equipment and devices on services.
  • Responsible for installations involving several types of self-contained meters for measuring current up to 200 amps and voltages not exceeding 480 volts.
  • Assist in the training of personnel. Install or remove load control adapters and reset off-peak time clocks when needed.
  • Inspect and install external equipment (i.e. locks, rings, seals, etc.)
  • Be alert to unauthorized external by-passed, jumpered or unmetered conditions.
  • Actively support and assist team members to achieve business unit's metrics.
  • Research available resources to resolve access problems to metering equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and remedy troubles and ensure accuracy of connections and registration of current.
  • Be alert for signs of theft of service, report and correct situations, which may have an adverse effect on revenue integrity.
  • Collect customer equipment and electric usage information required to support revenue cycle and energy related services (energy conservation audits, etc.).
  • Perform the functions of lower classifications as assigned, including the Meter Lab Tech.
  • Work hours determined by the company to meet customer and company needs including weekends, extended hours, holiday, emergency and off schedule hours.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Operate motor vehicle and communication equipment (i.e. Field Automation/MDT, cellular phones, two-way radio, GPS, etc).
  • Observe all company policies, operating procedures, guidelines, safety rules and regulations.
Skills and Requirements

Education:
  • General knowledge of simple electrical principles and ability to read electrical primary maps.
  • General understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Ability to make written or verbal reports involving basic skills knowledge.
  • Use mobile data terminals, PC and instruments.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license and be able to drive a company vehicle.
Working Conditions:
  • May be somewhat disagreeable conditions such as rain, snow, heat, cold, dirt, water, dogs, fleas and other vermin.
  • May be exposed to high crime conditions.
Physical Demand:
  • Generally light physical effort, frequent walking and driving, working outside, basements and meter rooms, may be exposed to cramped or dark areas and in all weather conditions.
  • Carry various light metering equipment, hand tools, handheld computer and diagnostic equipment.
