In-person, 20 hours per week to span the standard Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00 pm business week. Some weekend and evening hours may be required. Ideal start date is June 1, 2024.

• $10,000 based on 9-month appointment for the academic year.
• 3-month summer appointment based on need.
• $1,100 each month.

Graduate Student (Master's/Doctoral)

The Graduate Assistant will perform duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the Director of First-Year Experience. This role will support First-Year Experience (FYE) programming including campus events, retention initiatives, and assists with daily administrative tasks.

• Assist with Bearkat U enrollment activities including, but not limited to, new student orientation, registration labs, and calling campaigns.
• Accurately enters data into spreadsheets and other digital platforms.
• Assist with Progress Report Campaigns by monitoring the completion of Appointment Summary Reports and tracking progress.
• Support various FYE departmental initiatives including, but not limited to, Convocation, SHSU Common Reader, etc.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of program assessment, resulting in evidence-based improvements.
• Assist the welcome desk with tasks such as greeting guests, answering phone calls, appointment check-ins, monitoring peer mentor appointments, and rescheduling appointments when necessary.
• Other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Applicant must be a student enrolled in a SHSU graduate program and in good academic standing. As successful candidate should be able to multi-task, work independently, show initiative, and is detail-oriented.

• Must have working knowledge Outlook, Zoom/Teams, and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, and staff.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to seek consultation with supervisor and colleagues.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills (in person, virtually, and telephone).
