Job Description Summary
Admin Non-Exempt

Job Description
ABOUT THE CENTER: The Child Study Center, a campus-based laboratory preschool, offers a play based, emergent curriculum designed to nurture children's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. To this end, we offer a modified, open-structure classroom concept in which the schedule, routines, staff, classroom activity areas, and presentation of materials are highly organized but flexible enough to meet the individual needs of each developing child within the context of the whole group. We carefully and thoughtfully construct aesthetically pleasing learning environments and experiences to tap into children's curiosity, engage the whole child, and maintain a balanced, safe, healthy learning environment. We encourage the involvement of families and strengthening the relationships between children, families, and community.

The philosophy that is the cornerstone of our core beliefs, is that children are inherently good and capable. Although all children follow their individual developmental trajectory, there are certain patterns of development that follow a predictable sequence and both the environment and support from skillful teachers can exert tremendous influence on the child's development. Through their play, children expand their imagination, extend their creativity, and develop problem solving skills. Play provides opportunities for children to navigate social relationships, test hypotheses about materials, develop spatial awareness, practice maintaining attention, and extend critical thinking skills. Play is the work of the child!
