What We Offer:
    The salary for this position is $32,196 - $38,988 ($2,683 - $3,249/month) This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The University of Colorado Colorado Springs offers excellent benefits, some of which include

The Facilities Services department at UCCS seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of General Laborer I. This position is accountable to the Grounds & Nursery Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to care for campus grounds, do routine equipment maintenance, provide trash pickup throughout the campus, assist with the recycle program, and provide snow removal.

The key responsibilities include:



Litter control and trash collection
    Cleans outdoor campus areas. This includes picking up trash on campus property, clearing all entry ways and walkways of debris, emptying all outside trash and recycle containers. Ensures containers are maintained in proper locations. Wipes down trash/recycle containers, benches, tables and other miscellaneous outdoor related structures. Installs and maintains seasonal umbrellas, repairs as needed. Cleans cigarette urns, polices area around containers removing butts and other trash related items. Cleans interior and exterior surfaces of the bus terminals. Participates in the recycle program, assists in event setups with trash and recycle bin. Identifies safety hazards and corrects issues. Works in a safe manner. Drives department vehicles to support maintenance and landscape processes.



Sign Maintenance
    Installs and straightens outdoor signs on campus. Repairs/replaces outdoor signage as needed to meet campus standards.



Small equipment / minor vehicle maintenance
    Participates in the maintenance of equipment which includes campus owned vehicles, gators, trailers, snowplows, edger's, backpack blowers, spreaders and other related equipment.



General and Landscape maintenance
    Paints outdoor handrails and directional signage as needed. Schedules repairs of broken rails. Installs skateboard stops as needed. Performs minor asphalt patchwork of parking lots and roadways on campus. Performs minor concrete repair of walkways. Assists as requested with landscape preparation and clean up tasks. Operations may include, trenching, digging, moving material and horizontal earthwork.



Snow and Ice control
    Participates in the removal of snow and ice from campus. Provides sand for roadways and ice melt for walkways. Cleans sidewalks and roadways after seasonal weather event. Operates small and large equipment in support of process. Heavy equipment includes a skid loader, dump truck with plow and other four-wheel drive vehicles.





Training
    Attends 16 hours of training to increase skills and knowledge



Other Duties as Assigned
    Work of a similar nature to the other specific duties assigned.

Tentative Search Timeline:
  • Priority date for applications is December 11, 2022. However, this position will remain open until filled.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    Must be a Colorado resident to apply. Must possess a valid driver's license.



Preferred Qualifications:
    One or more years' experience of progressively responsible grounds care and maintenance, greenhouse, or plant nursery general labor work appropriate to the job in a commercial or education work environment. One or more years' experience in an Essential Personnel role.



Physical Requirements:



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. This position involves climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and fine motor skills. Tasks may involve looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time. Talking and hearing within normal range. Clarity of vision for 20 feet or more, depth perception and accommodation, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position may be asked to remove snow and ice when seasonal conditions require it. Working conditions: this position will have exposure to extreme cold, heat, and atmospheric conditions. May have exposure to electrical shock, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
