SUMMARY

The Head of Strategic Transport and Empties Management is accountable for the development, implementation and operational execution of the transportation and empties strategy regionally and across BUs and profit centres in alignment with global transportation and empties management. Safeguard MAHLE and its customers supply while optimizing the cost structure. Manage and organize projects to support cost and performance improvement in supply chain management within MAHLE and with defining external service partners.

  • Translate the strategic and tactical business plans to meaningful transport and empties strategic and operational plans serving all locations.

  • Serve as the supply chain expert for freight and transportation, warehousing, and returnable packaging.
  • Manage the team that serves as the primary contact for definition of specifications of the external supply chain; work with non-production material (NPM) purchasing to define process, methods, and volume plan to tender external freight providers and find best possible service providers.
  • Oversee and manage implementation of new freight forwarding companies.
  • Develop MAHLEs digital supply chain processes in alignment with external and internal infrastructure and partners.
  • Define standard processes and tools to support operational logistics and plants; assist with implementing within the organization.
  • Lead logistics cost and performance improvement projects and initiatives, including developing ideas and concepts to improve transport and returnable empties processes; successfully execute identified plans.
  • Collaborate with plants and development areas to define best practices and drive implementation across all locations.
  • Serve as 3rd level escalation for logistics issues to support process problem solving.
  • Support cost improvement Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) and Plant Performance Initiative (PPI) workshops to realize short term savings.
  • Support management initiatives with logistics, freight, and returnable knowledge.
  • Support regional and global projects and improvement initiatives.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university required; MBA degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years previous or related experience preferred, 5 years of management experience preferred
  • Excellent leadership and decision-making skills required, ability to make difficult decisions and set the example for employees
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple short and long-term projects with multiple work streams or departments to successful completion
  • Ability to identify and take the initiative to solve complex problems, work within deadlines with a high attention to detail, and to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and develop strong working relationships with colleagues, senior level management and/or executives, vendors, suppliers, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation delivery
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in MS Office
  • Automotive industry experience preferred
  • Advanced experience with SAP transportation management (TM) and logistic business network (LBM) modules preferred
  • Advanced level experience with expedited freight tool preferred
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Domestic/international travel with/without overnight stay may be required.
