Description

Position Title: Graduate Assistant, Historic Sandusky
Supervisor's Title & Department: Executive Director, Historic Sandusky
Session: Academic (August 12, 2024 - May 16, 2025) This is a one-year placement with an opportunity for re-application and hire.
Hourly Rate: $17.00/hour
Average hours per week: Up to 20 hours per week
JOB PURPOSE: The Graduate Assistant assists the Executive Director of Historic Sandusky in visitor services (public programming, membership, volunteers, special events), education (development, school tours, UL class visits), and general day-to-day operations. This person must be willing and able to learn the necessary history to give a tour of the museum and house, be comfortable talking to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, and able to interact with all levels of University of Lynchburg staff, faculty, and students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES may include:
1. Assists with public programs, lectures, receptions, and house tours.
2. Assists with public relations and promotion of programs and events.
3. Creates and develops special projects related to Historic Sandusky, its history, and the GA's academic background.
4. Handles money and sales of merchandise and tour tickets.
5. Assists with the collections and archives inventory, including documentation, computer inventory, photography, and storage.
6. Assists with publicity and marketing as needed.
7. Assists with special events as needed.
8. Assists with the training and mentorship of volunteers and students.
9. Assists with coordination and supervision of University of Lynchburg student interns and workers.
10. Assists with various tasks needed to help Sandusky fulfil its responsibilities to the public, the University, and special audiences.

11. Assists with administering Sandusky's library as needed.
12. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

ORAL & WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS:

Good English written and oral skills for communication.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The functions of this position are performed sitting, standing, and walking. Occasionally requires setting up of chairs, table, moving boxes, etc. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard require extensive wrist and hand movements. Responsibilities may take the Graduate Assistant off-campus; therefore, professional attire may be required. Contact with faculty, staff, students, and the general public is involved.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & PRE-REQUISITES: Good public relations skills and an interest in working with students, faculty, staff, volunteers, regional schools, and members of the general public. Initiative, self-motivation and a positive attitude. Good language and computer skills.
