Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This a grant-funded on-call position. On-Call employees are allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

About the Position Requirements

  • Anticipated hours: 8-20 hours per week, flexible scheduling available to support training opportunities that fit into various worker schedules (weekdays, weekends, evenings, day)
  • Worksite: This position is virtual remote; courses are instructed synchronously through Zoom. Anticipating the opportunity for trainers to deliver hands-on skills training in various sites around the state.
  • Onboarding: All trainers will complete approximately 24 hours of paid training before facilitating their first training course. Completion of training within 1 month of start date required, and includes two scheduled/synchronous training.

About the Training Courses:
Training courses have been developed by the IMPART Alliance to meet the competency requirements for working as a DCW. DCWs provide essential services to older adults and people with disabilities or post-acute care needs in the home, group home, assisted living, nursing home, or community living support setting. The best trainer is confident administering the curriculum, integrating their expertise in the field, and relating to the experience of the DCW. There is an opportunity for this person to obtain additional certification in providing hands-on skills demonstration training and/or trainer training.
Our model is remote/hybrid and developed to adapt across settings Trainers will be responsible for administering 1-hour synchronous virtual training to groups of direct care workers via Zoom (provided by MSU).

Special Note:

This application will be open until March 15, 2024. Review of applications will begin on February 28, 2024. Training begins on April 1, 2024.

Desired Qualifications

Who We're Looking For:

Ideal trainers must have two or more years of experience working in home and community-based care settings, teaching or training experience within the past two years, and a demonstrated commitment to and respect for person-centered supports and services. Additionally, trainers will and demonstrate knowledge of DCW competencies and teaching skills to advance the DCW workforce.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Experience in long-term support and services, home and community-based preferred. A long-term care facility is also considered.
  2. Previous training and work in a direct care field as a DCW, and/or certification or training as a certified nurse aide (CNA), home health aide (HHA), direct support professional (DSP), registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), personal care aide (PCA), emergency medical technician (EMT), physical or occupation therapist (PT, OT), physician assistant (PA).
  3. Access to a camera-enabled computer and high-speed internet. Familiarity with using online meeting platforms, like Zoom.
  4. Experience as an educator or performing workplace training.
  5. Ability to qualify as a nurse aide trainer, (i.e. RN with nursing home experience) will be given special consideration, but not required.
