Instructional Technologist - Center for Teaching Excellence

The Instructional Technologist will support Rush University faculty in the identification and use of best in class instructional technologies; including multimedia and web 2.0 and 3.0 technologies. The Technologist will be the main support contact for the faculty use of the Learning Management System (LMS).The Technologist will develop a standardized technical toolbox to support the needs of faculty teaching in online, blended, and face-to-face learning environments. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Design, and in collaboration with IT, implements a standardized technology "toolbox" which offers a range of pre-approved software and technologies that support a variety of learning environments.

  • Monitors educational technology developments, assesses their functionality, and submits proposals for technology changes to enhance the Rush University learning platforms.

  • Advises and trains faculty on their use of the institution's learning management system (LMS), multimedia and other technologies, and learning tools to advance classroom instruction.

  • Provides service management for educational technologies such as student response systems, lecture capture (Panopto), digital media solutions, etc.

  • Delivers workshops and/or one on one consultation to faculty members to advance instruction with technology and learning tools.

  • Provide technical support services.

  • Assist the instructional design team on projects.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as education, instructional media/technology, or computer science.

  • Expert level knowledge of at least two LMSs, including Blackboard and Canvas.

  • 3-5 years of experience providing education technology administration.

  • Experience developing multimedia (instructional videos) including filming, editing, publishing and interactive learning elements.

  • Experience delivering training face-to-face and/or virtually

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, instructional technologies and a variety of technology types (Mac & PC, tech tools, etc.)

  • Technologically savvy with demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies

  • Strong verbal communication

  • Strong customer service skills, responsiveness to customer requests, and to meet the customer at their level of technological expertise

  • Ability work on a cross-functional team

  • Strong time and project management

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.

  • Experience transitioning faculty to a new LMS.
