Position Title: Instructor (Temporary, Part-Time)

Department: Downtown Campus - TRiO Upward Bound

Rate of Pay: $25.49/hour

Closed Date: April 25, 2024; 5:00 PM Arizona Time

Position Summary:

The Pima Community College Upward Bound Program is currently accepting applications for temporary instructors for our 6-week summer program starting on June 3rd - July 10th. The Upward Bound Program aids in the areas of academic support and enrichment, ACT/SAT preparatory, career/college exploration, and post-secondary information to low-income first-generation students. The primary purpose of the federally funded program is to prepare students in grades 9-12 to attend and graduate from college.

The students attend academic classes specifically designed for them during the academic year, and during our summer component as well. We are seeking to staff the following classes:

  • Math (All levels)
  • Social Sciences
  • American Government
  • American History
We are especially interested in individuals that have extensive knowledge of standardized tests:
  • ACT and SAT
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for teaching a diverse population of high school students in various non-credit enrichment classes
  • Prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, and classroom presentations
  • Develop, review, and revise curriculum
  • Assess, evaluate, and document students' skills and progress
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Classroom management skills
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area and
  • Two years of related instructing experience
or
  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the education and work experience you regard as establishing the equivalency
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Education or
  • Three or more years of experience teaching Literacy Education and Second Language Learning for Adults
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Instructional principles and methods
  • Curriculum development
  • Materials evaluation and selection
  • Social Emotional Learning skills for Non-traditional, student-centered approaches to instruction
  • Career and academic development principles
  • Instruct and evaluate students in an enrichment setting
  • Develop and implement curricula and lesson plans
  • Maintain cohesive, multi-level group dynamics
  • Adapt instruction and programming to meet student needs
  • Communicate and cooperate with students, coworkers, and the public
Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, and fine finger movements - using the fingers to manipulate/handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating buttons, or sorting/separating small parts.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods or moving from one work site to another.
