Southern Star is currently seeking highly motivated and energetic students to join our team as Safety Intern. Interns are exposed to a variety of project-based assignments which allow them to add value to the Company.
This position offers a variety of opportunities including shadowing and assisting Reliability Technicians employees to gain a better understanding of the Pipeline Industry in Mechanical Compression.
Interns will typically support one or more experienced Technicians in meeting both departmental and corporate objectives. This individual will have the opportunity to become an instrumental part of the daily Reliability projects related to mechanical compression. This individual will participate in the performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual Technicians, site visits and hands on demonstrations. They may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the Southern Star community and with fellow interns.
A taxable housing stipend may be provided to obtain housing near the Southern Star work location if the successful candidate's permanent home address and current college address is determined by Southern Star to be greater than reasonable driving distance from the assigned work location.
This is a paid summer internship. Summer internships are 12-weeks in length and start no earlier than May 2022, and end no later than August 2022.
Responsibilities
- Assist/support local Reliability Technician on a daily basis
- Participate in Reliability conference calls, weekly Operations safety meetings
- Assist with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and prevention activities associated with main compressor units and auxiliary equipment.
- Assist with calibration of transmitters, transducers and other electronic controls equipment.
- Assist in performing various testing (ultrasonic, vibration, emissions, etc.)
- Work with various functional groups within SSCGP (Measurement, Corrosion, Integrity, etc.) as opportunity allows
Qualifications
To be considered for the Operations Summer Internship:
- You must be 18 years of age by the start of the summer internship assignment and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 after each completed semester/term.
- You must be a US Citizen or US Person
- You must be a currently enrolled in a Technical College Program pursuing an Associates Degree or a Junior or Senior pursing a Bachelors.
- Planning to pursue a career in the Natural Gas Industry.
