We are seeking a Laboratory Technician with Flow Cytometry experience to support the overall functions of theLaboratory of Immune System Biology (LISB). Responsibilities

• Perform flow cytometric cell sorting of research scientist-supplied samples.
• Assist in the maintenance of flow cytometers.
• Calibrate, maintain, and conduct quality control procedures of major fluidic and optical systems of the cell sorter and flow cytometers.
• Maintain a Windows OS or Apple OS system, other technical support to include data storage, archival and analysis, and hard copy output.
• Responsible for modifications and adjustment of instrument parameters and will identify control samples, according to experimental requirements.
• Establish and maintain record keeping systems of instrument parameters, computer data backups and instrument usage.
• Prepare reports of instrument usage by personnel and quality control information.
• Review current flow cytometry literature and attend meetings/seminars for improved methodologies and quality control procedures.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide, NIH-wide, and national and international meetings and for publication.
• Provide additional technical support and troubleshoot instrument or computer problems as they arise.
• Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data and preparing summaries of laboratory findings to be used in reports and papers to be presented at scientific meetings and/or publication in scientific journals. Actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and/or posters.
• Provide sample processing and archiving techniques for sample intake from clinical studies.
• Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc. required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc.

• Prepare various buffers, stock supplies, and other reagents for use in the laboratory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology or related discipline required.
• Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
• Effective communication skills working in a team atmosphere.
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours when experimental needs require it.
