Job Summary:

Victim support and advocacy is integral and fundamental to the MDT response as well as the well-being of the child and non-offending family members. The Lead Family Advocate is responsible for promoting a child focused, supportive environment at the Child Advocacy Center by providing support to family advocates at the center and providing crisis support, system information, and community resources for children and families who participate in an investigation of child abuse or who have witnessed violent crime.

  • Provide support and guidance to family advocates at the center including, but not limited to:
    • Answering advocate questions regarding cases, documentation, resources, and services
    • Facilitating family advocate meetings
    • Training new advocates
    • Preparing and collecting case vignettes and data for grant reporting
    • Monitoring OMS Survey distribution rates and outcomes
    • Monitoring family advocate caseloads and case assignments and working with the Program Supervisor to ensure fair distribution of caseloads to reduce burnout of advocacy staff
    • Taking leadership in facilitating open and ongoing communication among MDT partners to obtain case status updates and outcomes for family advocate cases.
    • Assisting the Program Director and Program Supervisor in ensuring quality advocacy services are provided to all children and families
  • Provide family advocacy services and regularly carry a full family advocacy caseload. Family advocacy responsibilities include:
    • Involvement with the MDT before, during, and after the forensic interview in order to participate in information sharing, inform and support family about the coordinated, multidisciplinary response, and assess needs of child and non-offending caregiver.
    • Provide crisis support to children and their families who are receiving services from the CAC, including but not limited to: greeting families, explaining the role of the Center in the process of the investigation, supporting non-offending parent/caretaker when the child is interviewed, and may support the child and other accompanying family members when the parent is in conference with the MDT.
    • Provide on a rotating, on-call basis, after hours/urgent/emergency advocacy for forensic interviews.
Job Requirements:

What we need from you:
  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English) preferred.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to family systems and child victimization required.
  • Knowledge of the overall child protection and legal system required.
  • Ability to communicate/and or interact effectively with children, adolescents, and adults that receive services through the CAC required.
  • Academic training or practical experience in and knowledge of developmental stages of children and the dynamics and effects of child abuse required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, computer and mediation skills required.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of disciplines required.
  • Knowledge of community resources required.
  • Work (2) two late afternoon/early evenings per week required.
  • Provide on a rotating, on-call basis, after hours/urgent/emergency forensic interviews required.
