JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently recruiting for a Piping & Mechanical Design Lead with experience in the chemical manufacturing industry. You will be responsible for leading a group performing design work supporting small facility based projects in an active chemical manufacturing plant as part of the Bishop Texas capital project's group.

• Permanent Full Time Position with opportunities for Overtime
• Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship is required.
• No Paid Relocation for this position

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet or exceed the company's safety standards

    • Work Load
      • Understand the project work load for the group
      • Estimate Designer hours required for incoming projects
      • Assign design resources to support project managers
      • Evaluate work performed by members of the Piping & Mechanical Design group
    • Education & Training
      • Assist with on-boarding of new Piping & Mechanical designers
      • Train Piping & Mechanical Group on new & existing Processes & Procedures
      • Provide guidance around best Piping & Mechanical Design approaches and work quality
  • Comply with all company procedures, engineering practices and other standards
    • Fast paced work environment
    • Work closely and interact with Project team members to achieve project success
      • Plant Engineering Groups
      • Internal and External Design Contractors
      • Construction Contractors
      • Maintenance Resources
  • Read and fully understand all documents which describe the scope of work to be done
    • Process Design Letters
    • P&IDs
    • Vendor Drawings
  • Provide Piping & Mechanical designs for capital and maintenance projects
    • Field as-built updates as required
    • Apply company and industry standards to generate Piping & Mechanical construction drawings.
      • Understand elevation and coordinate systems
      • Use and reference to standards from various sources
      • Plot Plans and Elevations
    • Create written field letters to describe required work
    • Perform material take-offs and create BOMs
    • Assist with construction estimating


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years industrial experience working in the design field
    • Chemical Manufacturing or Related Industry Experience is required
  • Experience with design of Piping & Mechanical systems
    • Piping Isometrics
    • Plan and Location Drawings
    • Pipe Rack design
    • Piping accommodations for Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Density, and Other Instrumentation,
    • 3-D design techniques Including Scanning and modeling
  • Field Design Experience
    • Able to wear required PPE
    • Operate Vehicles safely to job-site
    • Climb Ladders and Stairs
    • Field measurement
  • Work Environment
    • Proficiency in MicroStation
    • Proficiency in Microsoft, Word, Excel and Outlook
