The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four courses each semester in Yiddish language, Yiddish culture in translation, and related areas in Yiddish Studies. These courses will likely be a combination of in-person and online. In addition, the successful candidate will direct the Yiddish program at Ohio State

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: PhD or MA in Yiddish Studies or related fields; record of excellence in teaching at college levels of language and culture; experience with current instructional technologies and online language teaching; willingness and ability to teach either in-person or online as needed; commitment to curricular innovation; ability to work collegially and effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds as well as foster an inclusive classroom and working environment.

Desired: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, in line with Ohio State's Shared Values (see below). Also, candidates with interests in Yiddish and German-Jewish literature and/or culture will fit well with the department.

Additional Information:

The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks to hire a full-time, non-tenure-track lecturer in the field of Yiddish Studies. Appointment terms are up to three academic years beginning in Autumn 2024, with the possibility of renewals based on positive performance and department needs. This is a 100% appointment, and the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four courses each semester in Yiddish language, Yiddish culture in translation, and related areas in Yiddish Studies.
