The department maintains an undergraduate major with an enrollment of 400 students and a terminal master's degree program with 25 students.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time continuing lecturer to teach courses in Communication Studies, starting in Fall 2024. We seek a strong instructor who is prepared to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in areas related to interpersonal, digital, and organizational communication.

The position is a full-time, three-year, renewable lecturer role with opportunities for promotion within the Professional Faculty category. This position is an open rank Professional Faculty role (non tenure-track); candidates with a strong and demonstrated background designing and teaching an array of undergraduate courses may be hired at a rank higher than the entry level of Lecturer (e.g., Senior Lecturer or Principal Lecturer).

Responsibilities for the position include teaching four courses each semester and providing service to the department. This position includes a competitive salary and includes benefits. This position will entail teaching at both UNT's Frisco and Denton campuses, with an assignment of three courses on the Frisco campus and one on the Denton campus each semester.

The successful candidate should be able to teach innovative and interactive face-to-face courses that feature project-based learning. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong capacity to teach undergraduate courses at both the introductory level (e.g., Interpersonal Communication, Introduction to Communication Studies, Public Speaking) and upper-division level (e.g., Communication & Social Media, Organizational Communication, Nonverbal Communication). An ability to teach a social science methods course and/ or undergraduate courses in other areas of the department (Rhetorical Studies and Performance Studies) would also be a strength. A demonstrated capacity to oversee and mentor Teaching Assistants would be a valuable strength for the successful candidate. There may be opportunities for this new faculty member to design new undergraduate courses that are aligned with departmental and university priorities for growth.

By the time of appointment, candidates must have a master's degree in Communication Studies or closely related field. A PhD in Communication Studies or closely related field would be preferable.

Application materials are to be submitted through UNT's Faculty Jobs Portal (Page Up).
