The SCCC OGSR Laboratory Manager enables the day-to-day operations of the Sylvester Onco-Genomics Shared Resource, including project tracking and scheduling, customer contact, carrying out laboratory techniques, and ensuring an efficient and effective shared resource laboratory working environment.

Department Specific Functions

Implements short- and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories. Implements laboratory policies and procedures and coordinates with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services. Serves as a liaison between clients and core staff to solve project-specific operational issues. Serves as a liaison between clients and OGSR leadership to delegate project-specific scientific problems. Advise clients about OGSR services, their associated costs and timelines. Guide clients in submission, tracking and data transfer requirements for projects. Maintains communications with clients about status of requests. Anticipate delays with individual projects and deliverables, and reports concerns to supervisor in a timely manner. Liaises with OGSR staff to ensure that completed projects have met all procedural outcomes and quality measurements prior to release of data. Maintains conformance with specific operational standards for service delivery and instrument performance. Assumes the role of Safety Officer and maintains checks on the safety of laboratory operations, reagent and sample storage, and insures maintenance of certifications and EHS deliverables. Assists in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Performs complex molecular biology techniques for OGSR research services as required depending on experience. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Maintains clear records of laboratory tasks, statuses, outcomes, and costs Advances expertise through continued education and training. Maintains current knowledge of relevant developments in the field.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in either a laboratory or administrative environment

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to manage, implement, and evaluate laboratory and or service center operations.
  • Ability to establish operational goals, and objectives that support the mission of the OGSR.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and track the work of others.
  • Ability to meet University DIRECT standards for service delivery and client interactions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
