The Manufacturing Test Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and maintenance of test equipment in our West Chester, PA facility. The primary role of this position is to meet or exceed the key performance indicators established for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost through effective Daily Management and continuous process improvement. In addition, he/she will lead and supervise lean initiatives governed by the Altra Business System.

This position is located in West Chester, PA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned.

  • This position is responsible for the development, validation, and maintenance of automated and manual test equipment and processes that support motor manufacturing at the site.
  • Conduct Voice of Customer sessions with internal/ external customers for capturing test specifications.
  • Create test procedures, develop test software, fixture and tool development, verification and validation and implementation of test equipment.
  • Participate and conduct cross functional technical design reviews around test equipment.
  • Create manuals for new and legacy test equipment for repair and replication.
  • Create preventative maintenance procedures and maintains test equipment, test fixtures.
  • Performs advanced TROUBLESHOOTING / REPAIRS of MOTOR TEST EQUIPMENT in area of ownership
    • Perform initial mechanical and electrical troubleshooting to determine root cause of equipment failures
    • Assists Maintenance with minor/ major repairs and troubleshooting of equipment. Escalate to Maintenance staff as required.
    • Ensure Equipment Preventative Maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
    • Ensure calibration/validation are completed.
  • Conducts PROCESS IMPROVEMENT activities
    • Ensure repeatability and reproducibility of testing, measurement, and analytical equipment.
  • Maintains DOCUMENTATION related to test equipment, work instructions and inspection
    • Compiles and write training material and conduct training/coaching sessions on quality control and testing activities.
    • Supports NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT as needed in creation of any custom test equipment.
  • Performs ROOT CAUSE & COUNTERMEASURE analysis (RCCM's) of internal quality issues
    • Collects and receives first signals of potential defective product in area of ownership, troubleshoots, and provides feedback to operators on initial disposition.
    • Performs MRB (Material Review Board) daily. Identify plan for disposition/rework/salvage of defective parts originating in area of ownership.
    • Submits deviation and Engineering Change Order requests as needed
    • Works closely with Quality Team on external returns (RMA's) including analysis related to defects originating in area of ownership, both determination of root cause and implementation of countermeasures
  • Lead DAILY MANAGEMENT to drive Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity performance in area of responsibility
    • Collects and compiles data for cell level SQDIP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity)
    • Establishes regular communication of data to associates and affected persons
    • Create action plan and executes to drives action to successfully meet goals.

Job Requirements

Key Characteristics / Qualifications
    • High sense of urgency and results driven
    • Strong written, verbal and computer skills
    • Ability to work in a cross functional environment
    • Familiarity with prototyping and troubleshooting electrical and electronic test equipment
    • Familiarity with use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies
    • Familiarity with documentation and process control
    • Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
    • Undergraduate degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
    • At least two years of Manufacturing Test Engineering experience preferred.
    • Soldering experience preferred.
    • A strong understanding in reading and creating electrical schematics is preferred.
    • LabVIEW, Agilent VEE, Microsoft Access database, VB etc. preferred. Software programming knowledge necessary
    • A strong understanding of quality systems and other process improvement tools.
    • Experience with Lean Manufacturing / Problem Solving tools is preferred
    • Experience with QS and ISO requirements is preferred
