In conjunction with the VP Innovation and Project Execution, is responsible for maintaining and advancing AMUSA products and expertise in process improvement, vendor development, product development, material selection, and application engineering.

REQUIRED SKILL SET

  • Drives materials innovation for Andritz Metals USA products
  • Works with product management to understand market needs and assists with product development, evaluation, and administration of product trials at customer locations, both domestically and internationally
  • Develops and presents technical papers to professional organizations on metallurgical problem solving regarding own products
  • Develops new heat-treating processes for production department.
  • Provides technical support to field sales organization in new product (material) introductions, seminars, and applications documentation.
  • Supports order engineering function in the determination of technical details for R&D projects
  • Supports materials management in vendor development, qualification, and audit programs for R&D projects
  • Manages product development projects as assigned.
  • Supports job execution when needed with material processing applications and or performance testing.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of tool steel applications and their machining and heat treatment.
  • Knowledge of tool steel applications relating to cutting and slitting of various steel grades
  • Knowledge of ferrous and nonferrous grades and their processing.
  • Knowledge of quality system requirements, especially ISO 9001-2000.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to concisely communicate technical issues in non-technical terms.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize requirements and budget time for their accomplishment.
  • Ability to assemble and manipulate data bases and spread sheets using personal computer.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, requiring overnight stays, at times on short notice.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • BS in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or allied discipline.
  • Five to ten plus years' experience in R&D, engineering, or manufacturing in a steel processing or equipment OEM environment.
