POSITION SUMMARY

The Metrologist is a new position within the Device Test and Reliability Engineering (DTRE) team, reporting to the Associate Director of Device Test and Reliability Engineering. They will support measurement, set methodologies, and write reports for new devices performing diagnostic assays, delivering therapeutic medicines, and otherwise improving animal health.

This position will work as an independent contributor implementing best practice techniques, delivering accurate results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and establishing calibration practices.

The role is part of an engineering group working toward goals related to early prototypes, vendor validations, and other product development needs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Metrologist will:

• Set schedules, develop procedures, and select vendors as needed for the upkeep of metrology tools

• Create validation procedures for equipment to ensure high accuracy and repeatability

• Execute measurements according to best practices

• Tracks and manages regular calibration of Zoetis equipment to safeguard measurement quality

• Develop templates for, write and/or present inspection/measurement reports

• Coordinate with external agencies/laboratories to deliver against metrology needs not available at Zoetis

• Develop continuous improvement strategies leading to higher efficiency and/or greater accuracy

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required: AS in Engineering (preferred: Mechanical) with 10-12+ years metrology experience in an electro-mechanical device development environment.

Preferred: BS in Engineering (preferred: Mechanical) with 5+ years metrology experience in an electro-mechanical device development environment.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Required:

• Skills in critical thinking and problem solving, planning and organizing, decision-making

• Good verbal and written skills, influencing and leading, facilitation and teamwork capabilities

• Demonstrable knowledge of fixtures and hardware for measurements

• Intermediate knowledge of CMM, measurement hand tools and other metrology equipment

• Basic knowledge of 3D CAD

• Intermediate knowledge of GD&T

• Strong capability in report writing and documentation

Preferred:

• Project management through JIRA or other equivalent workflow tools

• Skillset in failure analysis

• Familiarity with plastic/metal part design and manufacturing

• Advanced knowledge of GD&T
