AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position of Network Administrator has the responsibility for the maintenance, troubleshooting and administration of the organization's production voice, video and data network infrastructure. Network infrastructure for Austal USA includes, but not limited to, LAN, WAN, WLAN, Wireless Bridging, VoIP (IP Telephony), QoS, Firewall, Telephony Systems, Telecommunications and Network Security Systems. The person in this position will work closely with members of the IT staff to ensure very high levels of network availability, security and efficiency. The Network Administrator will serve as the technical resource for network production operations support and relevant systems projects.

  • Provides first-level support to incidents that require the network team's inclusion as well as troubleshoot problems.
  • Configure, install and operate network equipment to meet business and technical requirements
  • Participation in project delivery work, including device configuration and planning, low-voltage planning and vendor coordination, and other
  • Develop and implement network infrastructure changes via the established Change Management process
  • Participation in project / network lifecycle maintenance

  • Act as technical resource to relevant network matters for other organizational units
  • Provide succinct and timely, up-to-date project / network documentation; including drawings
  • Deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, and other network equipment as prescribed
  • Monitor network performance, help identify network trends, and troubleshoot problem areas as needed
  • Collaborate with IT team members, vendor services and others as necessary to assess near and long-term network capacity needs
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network service / device mapping, processes, and service records
  • At the direction of the Sr. Network Engineering, conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
  • Practice network asset management that includes network device / component inventory, support agreements, relevant vendor contracts and others
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades for new and existing equipment as prescribed
  • Participate as needed in network security activities that include assessments, tests and other
  • Participate in DR/BC planning and testing as required

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS degree and/or 5 years of relevant network operations experience in an organization of 1000+ computer users
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience managing a network infrastructure comprised of Cisco technologies that includes router, switch, firewall, wlan and voice solutions required
  • Certification as or working knowledge of ITIL V3 Foundations preferred
  • Experience with high-availability configuration of network systems preferred
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery operations support preferred
  • Analytical Thinking - Ability to solve critical production issues required
  • Experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices preferred
  • Hands-on technical knowledge with networking technologies in a large campus network configuration preferred
  • Working Knowledge of VTP, STP, QoS, L2/L3 Switching, Routing Protocols, WAN Optimization preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience with SIP preferred
  • Knowledge of transport media such as twisted pair, broadband, baseband, coaxial, microwave and fiber optic systems preferred
  • Working technical knowledge of relevant network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards required
  • Experience with testing tools for wired and wireless voice, video and data circuits preferred
  • Certification as Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) preferred
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language

TOOLS: Packet Capture Tools (Sniffers), System Monitoring and Analysis Tools, Help Desk Ticketing Systems, Microsoft Excel and others as prescribed
