Job Summary
This position is for a network engineer. This position assists in setting standards for installations, for monitoring the performance of the network, and for setting data management practices. This position ensures that hardware and infrastructure related to Flagstar's data network are effectively maintained. This position will work closely with the Architecture team to implement and operationalize new systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engineer best practice solutions and promote technical expertise in evolving data center, WAN, User Access, and Cloud network technologies ensuring application availability and business continuity for the enterprise.
  • Maintain current topology & operation of the existing network infrastructure and in-depth understanding of how it works to deliver optimal troubleshooting of issues, and to ensure network changes cause zero or near-zero impact on applications and users.
  • Conduct research & analysis to provide solution engineering of network technologies that offer a potential value in the present and/or the future, and make recommendations accordingly ensuring secure, reliable, fault tolerant, high performance, scalable and manageable network designs to meet enterprise needs in accordance with long term architectural vision.
  • Assume technical leadership in the design, deployment and maintenance of network systems with appropriate life cycle planning, and assure reliable, scalable and durable production systems.
  • Deliver enterprise wide initiatives through collaboration with internal customers working/directing cross functional teams to support corporate goals on time, on budget.
  • Contribute to project teams during the development and documentation phases; analyze business and technical requirements; prepare project specifications, plans and schedules; communicate with stakeholders; coordinate approvals and marshal necessary resources; deliver tested and authenticated results on time and within budgeted costs.
  • Assume ownership for large/complex systems projects; mentor Network Team in the best practices for ongoing maintenance and scaling of large/complex systems.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field plus 7+ years of technology related work experience OR 10+ years of comparable work experience.
  • AWS Cloud Certification, CCNP, CCDP, CCIE (Cisco certifications) preferred.
  • 7 + years of technology experience preferably working at a network engineering capacity.
  • Expert-level competence in IPv4/IPv6 routing, switching and security technologies and protocols including TCP/IP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS (customer side), AAA/Radius/Tacacs, IPsec, GRE, NAT, 802.1q, and QOS.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive.
  • Excellent written and verbal English-language communication skills, with the ability to communicate with other teams about network solutions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to express complex ideas to other team members.
  • Must be a team player, to provide input to other team members, and accept feedback.
  • Familiar with common ITIL practices including change management processes
  • Proficiency with network performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools, as well as common management and communications software
  • Experience with common network audit requirements for PCI, SOX, and other common requirements
  • Comfortable with logging into and navigating Unix/Linux operating systems, and using common command.

Plus required to be accomplished in the following specializations:

Application Networking
  • Strong competence in load balancing including F5, Citrix (Netscaler)
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in application performance monitoring, system log analysis, service health monitoring
  • Ability to write iRules for F5
  • Java application acceleration with F5
  • Experience with common CDN solutions

Data Center Networking
  • Strong competence with data center LAN technologies
  • Expert-level OSPF, BGP, and layer 2 networking
  • Experience with VXLAN
  • In-depth understanding of DNS and DHCP

AWS Networking
  • AWS ALBs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Private Link
  • CloudFormation
  • Proficiency with Python or similar general-purpose scripting environment

Network Security
  • Expert-level competence with firewall configurations including access control, network address translation, and site-to-site VPN implementations
  • Strong Knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls
  • Knowledge of DDOS solutions
  • Knowledge of API security
  • Experience with F5 AFM
