ABOUT THE JOB
The Parent Advocate will be available to parents of the clients of the Bronx Early Childhood Treatment Center. The parent advocate will provide services in accordance with the service plan which include: orientation for new admissions, assistance with advocacy, benefits, entitlements, education, treatment and discharge planning.

The responsibilities of the Parent Advocate include:

  • Attending Parent Advisory Council meetings as determined by the program needs and clinical director.
  • Developing and coordinating program events and activities.
  • Attending staff and other program meetings to present initiatives derived from the Parent Advisory Council.
  • Attending to other Program Operations issues when agenda items pertain to their role.
  • In coordination with the clinical director and treatment team, assisting parents with an array of services based on their needs. This may include involvement with care coordination and collaboration with outside service providers including schools, legal and doctors.
  • Providing general support for families whose youngster is moving towards discharge.
  • Assisting with the Performance Improvement initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Facilitating groups
  • Documenting services provided in a timely manner
  • Assisting with data collection and tracking
  • Other duties as assigned.

TO QUALIFY
The Jewish Board is currently looking for a talented Parent Advocates of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Experience in parenting a child or adolescent with a serious emotional disturbance.
  • Ability to work with diverse social, cultural, and economic groups.
  • Spanish language preferred.
  • Background in advocating in the mental health and/or education systems.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to be assertive.
