The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for accurately performing all basic pharmacy technician functions in a timely, efficient, and customer centric manner. The basic pharmacy technician activities support pharmacy operations that lead to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. In addition, they are responsible for performing advanced duties that require problem-solving, critical thinking, and process improvement skills. Pharmacy technicians follow the directions of on duty pharmacists and function under their supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs as an ambassador to other work units (e.g. nursing staff) to increase customer service
  • Identifies areas for personal improvement or improvement of pharmacy department to better meet the needs of customers.
  • Provides pharmacists with technical assistance and data gathering to facilitate pharmacist clinical activities (e.g. medication reconciliation, triaging reports, lab value retrieval, etc.).
  • Billing/Inventory Management
  • Accurately performs audits (e.g. anesthesia, overrides, billing, etc.) as assigned
  • Performs administrative billing functions as assigned
  • Assists with inventory management and quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Medication and Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) Management
  • Proficient in automated dispensing systems and able to train pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel and answer questions
  • Troubleshoots ADM issues. (E.g. orders not coming across, drawer failures, medication jams, communication failures, etc.)
  • Able to reconfigure Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADM).
  • Under direction will adjust medication Min & Max
  • Narcotic Discrepancy Audits - Investigates Discrepancies to determine if true discrepancy and completes Audit sheets and/or incidence reports as appropriate
  • Monitor ADT activities and communicate any problems to appropriate individual
  • Compounding/ IV Admixture
  • Demonstrates a high proficiency in the full range of antineoplastic compounding.
  • Compliant with all USP 800 shift/daily/monthly requirements (e.g. cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.)
  • Assists with ongoing IV room quality assurance and performance improvement projects as assigned
  • Regulation and Compliance
  • Actively searches for potential quality control and performance improvement functions
  • Participates in pharmacy performance improvement projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration:
  • Certified PharmacyTechnician (CPhT) Certification required
  • Intern Permit with theLouisiana State Board of Pharmacy
  • National IV roomcertification preferred.
  • Active Registered Pharmacy Technician, and in good standingwith the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent education required
  • Experience: minimum1 year hospital experience.
  • Knowledge,Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrates comprehensive operational knowledge in awide range of medication related areas throughout the hospital
  • Apply known solutions to a variety of predictableproblems
  • Applies and performs processes that require a range ofwell-developed skills where some discretion and judgment is required
  • Interpret available information using discretion andjudgment
  • Take responsibility for own outputs in work andlearning
  • Specialqualifications:
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training andcompetencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which arespecific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of computer systems andpharmacy technology desirable.
  • Work schedule: Full-time - Day shift
