About the Position

We are seeking a MILITARY & FEDERAL INSTALLATIONS PLANNER - LEVEL 1 to join our growing team. The position can be located in either of the following offices: (hybrid work permitted) Huntsville, AL; New Orleans, LA; Peachtree Corners, GA.

The primary duties of the Level 1 Planner are to collect, assimilate, develop, and manage facilities and land use planning, landscape design and mission requirements-related data for military and other federal clients worldwide. Participates in the development of constraints mapping and documentation development in support of regional, urban, and military installation design. Prepares conceptual and schematic designs for institutional-level buildings, military installations and mixed-use facilities of all types, including development of high-quality illustrations for planning documentation. Participates in the preparation of data tabulations for generating project requirements. Participates in sustainability and resiliency planning for federal clients throughout the US. Travel Requirement is 25% or 1 week per month on average including international.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices & techniques of planning
  • Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of research and data collection
  • Knowledge of planning disciplines such as urban design, environmental planning, military planning, economic development or land use
  • Solid understanding of GIS use, principles, data standards and projections; model building and application development is a plus
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Effective communication skills are critical - writing skills, powerpoint, acrobat, and Microsoft office software, including advanced use of Microsoft Excel are preferred
  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines
  • Group facilitation skills for use with community workshops are a plus
  • Military experience is a plus
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Level 1 Planner position requires a degree in planning or related field and one to four years of professional planning experience (internship experience is applicable). Candidates possessing a master's degree in planning or a related field, professional training and/or certifications may substitute professional planning experience. Desire for AICP and/or GIS Training Certification is a plus.

This position may require occasional travel to domestic or foreign locations. Must maintain a current, valid driver's license (REAL ID, where required). Employee must be able to travel freely on a passport or other official document.

The ability to pass a security clearance background investigation is required, with no felony convictions. Access to federal installations or other secure facilities may require security badges and employee must be able to obtain basic security clearances.
