Position Overview

The Plant Operator is an entry to mid-level position at the Baytown Tx Liquid Asphalt Terminal for Century Terminals LLC, a CRH company. The Plant operator serves a mission critical role for the facility in overseeing the day-to-day outside operation of the facility as well as providing assistance where necessary to the PMA blending unit, truck loading, and rail/barge unloading operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operation of plant equipment including control panels and heavy equipment such as forklifts, bobcats, and manlifts
    • Training to be provided if not previously certified
  • Oversee and provide assistance for truck loading operation from the control room and truck rack
  • Assist Polymer Blender in PMA blending operations by loading hoppers and maintaining a clean and clear working environment
  • Assist in barge unloading operations as needed during hookup/unhook and dock-side monitoring of discharge
  • Setting up and overseeing tank-to-tank material transfers as directed by Management/QC
  • Hooking up and unloading of liquid asphalt railcars
  • General site cleanup and maintenance

Qualifications
  • Education: Process Technology or similar operations certification preferred
    • Waivable for sufficiently trained/experienced operations personnel
  • Experience: 0-1 years of onsite experience at the Baytown Liquid Asphalt Terminal or similar facility
    • Waivable for applicants with similar operations experience or applicable certifications
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Knowledge Requirements and Skills

The Plant Operator must be able to learn and employ a combination of the following skills:
  • Basic operational and equipment knowledge for pumps, valves, and mobile equipment
    • Including safety considerations
  • Basic understanding of liquid asphalt properties
    • For operational and safety concerns
  • Memorize plant layout for storage tanks and associated piping systems

Work Requirements
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and fitness screening
  • Must be able to work onsite at the Baytown Tx, Liquid Asphalt Terminal
    • No work-from-home opportunities are available for this position
  • Must be willing and able to adhere to strict Safety requirements and procedures.
  • Must be willing to work extended or flexible shifts as required for plant operations
  • Must be able to frequently lift objects weighing 50lbs or more
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders of 10 ft or more to access the Polymer Loading Hoppers
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended lengths of time on potentially hard surfaces
  • Must be able to repeatedly climb stairs equivalent to 10 stories or more throughout the day to access the top of storage tanks

The work conditions described below are representative of the requirements necessary to perform the previously described job functions.   • Working outside for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
  • Working extended, or overnight, hours when required
  • Potential exposure to asphalt and sulfur fumes in controlled levels within permissible safety standards
  • Exposure to rotating equipment
  • Potential exposure to elevated temperature liquids above 300 °F from:
    • Liquid Asphalt
    • High Temperature Heating Oil
  • Working in and around Mobile Heavy Machinery
  • Potential Exposure to Chemical compounds in both dry and liquid forms
  • Working in potentially restrictive PPE including:
    • Full body high temperature rated clothing including gloves, face shields, and masks where applicable
  • Working from Heights where a safety harness is required
  • Working around welding and open-flame equipment
