Product Owner, Research and Development

The Research & Development Department's mission is set the new industry standard by finding new materials, methods, and technology to change the built environment and the way we work. We foster a collaborative mindset, believing that with our partners in design, real estate, and the trades - we can deliver a better way to build. The product owner is responsible for the development and oversight of a custom technology solution aimed at disrupting the construction industry. In this role, he/she will work with leadership to execute the vision to drive innovation and excellence into the application and leverage the tool internally with stakeholders. This team member will develop the go-to market strategy for the product including developing the branding, collateral, and initial business cases. The role requires software development experience and will lead a team of outside consultants.

The individual is experienced in agile development methodology, possesses strong project management skills, passionate about innovation, skilled writer and communicator, strong critical thinking skills and a relationship builder. The ideal candidate is skilled in both internal and external customer service and is comfortable operating in new project territory without fear of failure. They are highly organized, self-motivated, collaborative (willing/able to engage multiple business stakeholders across various leadership teams), and able to drive results and juggle many tasks at once.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge the gap between product strategy and development by managing a fast-paced agile development team with time spent in planning, refinement, review, and sprints
  • Managing product backlog constantly prioritizing, clarifying, and managing the development of new features and improvements.
  • Lead the product development process, including branding, budget, go-to market strategy, and utilize high-level perspectives to define goals, clarify the vison for the project, and anticipate future needs of the product
  • Identify use cases, define success metrics, and testing plans. Continuously iterate and test the processes to achieve desired results
  • Be able to prioritize business needs while weighing scope, budget, and timeline
  • Communicate with stakeholders including company leadership, clients, partners, subcontractors, and internal team members
  • Validate the development roadmap aligns with the project's goals and business objectives and be responsible for product progress through each sprint and iteration
  • Develop engagement strategy within the application to engage users, measure success, and define future goals
  • Act as brand ambassador for R&D, representing HITT in industry and professional organizations and events, with the goal of becoming a high-visibility leader within the industry.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and Training: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university and a minimum of 8 years of experience in software development, product development, or innovation
  • Must have experience in Microsoft Azure and proven writing skills to capture project information and communicate to stakeholders.
  • Passionate leader - strong and creative problem solver is required. The ideal candidate will be curious and able to think outside of the box and able to prioritize while working in a fast-past environment.
