Job Summary

This position is responsible for quality inspection throughout the production facility. Reporting to our Quality Assurance Manager, this detail-oriented individual performs repetitive dimensional, electrical, or mechanical floor or bench inspection and visual and dimensional checks of parts, units, sub or final assemblies of standard design, employing fixed, limit gauges and direct reading, rules, scales, gauges, gauge pins and blocks, optical comparators, surface plates, and micrometers and calipers. Some degree of judgment may be required to determine inferior material or workmanship, but instructions and/or partially prescribed procedures should be followed. The job will involve interpreting simple and complex part or assembly drawings and/or specifications for product conformance to quality standards.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Approves in-process, finished products material by conducting visual, tactile, dimensional, and functional measurement tests of molded parts and assemblies as required in work instructions.
  • Document non-conforming material.
  • Return the rejected products for re-work and confirming re-work before approving it as a finished product.
  • Document inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarize re-work and waste and input data into a quality database.
  • Perform special QA inspections/assembly inspections/sorting projects as required.
  • Assist the team with diagnosing issues with products.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Accomplishes quality and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by management.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • At least 1 year of quality inspector experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Internal experience as a Production Associate I may also be considered.
  • Experience with basic mechanical and measuring devices such as meters, torque wrenches, gauges, calipers, and other measuring instruments highly preferrred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Prior experience using SQCpack and/or DELMIAworks/IQMS a plus but not required
  • ASQ CQI Certification a plus but not required

Skills and Abilities
  • The ability to communicate using English, as needed, to effectively communicate results and issues (through oral and written communications) to a variety of audiences
  • The ability to read and understand written instructions, shipping orders, department paperwork, safety warning labels and placards; Verbally communicate with manager, leads and co-workers regarding department procedures and safety related information
  • Ability and interest in learning and using new skills and technical product knowledge
  • Flexibility and the desire to take on additional responsibility
  • Listen to others and appropriately act on information provided
  • Work effectively as a team member
  • Work in a fast-paced, changing environment

Lab/Manufacturing environment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must remain standing during working hours and have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds daily. Must wear safety glasses, gloves, hair net and lab coat. The employee is regularly required to use hands to perform inspections. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and depth perception. Magnification is used during the inspection process.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
